This album was recorded over several months during 2009. While Matt had released several other pieces of music such as demos and bootlegs previous to the album's inception this was his first attempt at complaining music for a full record. In an interview about the album Matt stated "I recently had a falling out with a metal band I had been playing in for years. Musical/personal interests grew us apart and I soon found my home in folk/alt country music. Songs of this nature I was writing had more religious/Americana undertones and held more meaning than ones I had previously worked on."

After taking a 2 year break to serve a mission for the LDS Church Matt quickly began working on the album again once he returned.

"The album title BIRDS comes from a track called Birds Eye View. The song is about meeting my now current wife and how being with her gave me a "birds eye view" or better vantage point of life.

"on the physical CD the album sleeve has a picture of me that was taken a the Photo Booth at Muse Music in Provo, sometime in August 2009".

The album was released at a CD Release Show at Muse Music (Provo UT) on Oct. 30, 2009.
